Xin chao (hello), Andy here, I’m a young food enthusiast with a current palate for South-East Asia. I have had my fair share of travels and enjoyed cuisine from all around the globe, from Bolognese in Bologna to Tacos in Tulum. I love to hunt down the authentic dishes made and enjoyed by the locals. Vietnam is next on the menu with traditional Street Eats the main course. The journey begins in Ho Chi Minh City and climbs the coast to the capital, Hanoi. A solo journey with penny-pinching tips to maximise flavour and taste on a budget. Vietnamese food has also been a favourite of mine, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to experience its origins first hand. I often find that small street stalls are the best way to find authentic food where locals eat, rather than big restaurants that are targeted towards tourists.
“We are the eyes and ears of the people we meet, their only contact with the world outside” Iyer, Pico (2000). 'Why We Travel'. This quote tastefully sums up why I travel. I've had my best travel experiences being served food from a proud local as they eagerly watch to see my reaction. I feel so lucky to be able to experience their craft and bring their unique cultural taste and story back home to share with my family and friends. I also feel the responsibility to be a good ambassador for my home, as when we travel we become a window into our culture for those we meet.
